yeah basically

Or when you go ahead and begin to memorize facts, required by other nations’ emigration department, in case you wish to gain naturalization.elsewhere.

My goal for the next year is to start memorising the emigration requirements/test info for Canada, just in case.  I have plenty of friends in Canada already, and I would like to be prepared in case something horrendous happens at the next presidential election.

(Admittedly, my experience is as a child immigrating, so I might be missing bits my parents did without involving me.)

The test is for citizenship, and thus you don’t need to know it until after you’ve been here for some time*. The tricky part is convincing the U.S. to let you leave. It took us five years (yes, five) to get them to stop stalling. (They were reduced to making shit up. They rejected a form for lack of signature when it quite clearly did have the signature. Also, why do fingerprint records expire (and so have to be re-done) when you still have the same fingers?)

*So I’m told. I was technically a minor when we applied for citizenship, so the test is Not My Problem.
