@brin-bellway asked: What’s that unicorn(?) on the kitchen table?

It is an ELEPHANT! :D It’s a Better Homes and Gardens brand wax warmer I found at Walmart for $15. (There was going to be a $6 rebate but I forgot to include my receipt.) You put a lil cube of scented wax in the bottom tray, and then you switch it on, and a little 25watt lightbulb inside the porcelain body of the elephant melts the wax and makes your house smell good.

I’d been thinking about getting a wax warmer for a while, and then I picked up a bunch of Joann’s brand candles on uber-sale that don’t function terribly well as candles because the wicks burn down faster than the wax burns up, so I was looking at wax warmers and I found this one. I think it’s really cute, and also the porcelain and glaze look reminds me of the Red Rose Tea figurines we used to have when I was a kid. You can use a single cube of wax several times till all the smell is gone, so it might be more cost efficient than candles, also. It really depends how often I use one versus the other.

in much more interesting news, today at work I got to explore an abandoned 500-year-old castle, seized by the state because of the owner’s massive tax evasion

we spent an hour and half going all over the grounds, I’d never felt so #urbex

just want to point out that we found this door at one point

WHY

seeing this door makes me feel like i have never truly contemplated the possibilities of doors as a concept, as though a new understanding of what it means to be a door has been forced upon me

is there any temptation greater than being in the hardware store and seeing the place where they have all the little cards for the colours

zagreus:

as someone who works in the paint department of a hardware store i just wanna say that you are absolutely allowed (and ENCOURAGED!) to grab as many cards off the rack as you want so long as you don’t take more than one or two of each colour (they are free for customers but the store only gets so many at a time so please don’t just walk off with our ENTIRE supply of SW 7587 Antique Red cards)

madmanswords:

That’s too specific. Have people been stealing the SW 7587 Antique Red cards in droves lately?

zagreus:

legally i am not allowed to comment

recoil-operated:

I’m too cheap to actually buy paint so I’ve been going to every hardware store in collecting all the SW 7587 antique red cards and gluing them to my walls

Happy Caturday! Christmas tree season is fast approaching. We know that for some of you it’s already here. Your cats are looking forward to it too, though perhaps not for the same reasons. They’re less interested in festive ambiance and presents than pawing at shiny ornaments, pulling off the garlands and lights, and climbing that tree like it’s their own sparkly, evergreen fort.

Bored Panda assembled an awesome collection of creatively pet-proofed Christmas trees. These photos are just the tip of the very merry iceberg.

Click here every cat-proof, dog-proof, and even fox-proof Christmas tree.

For structures that have no entry steps, ConvertaStep also makes ramps of three sizes that come in a manual as well as automatic version.

(via ConvertaStep | Wheelchair Accessibility | Ramps | Convertastep – Freedom In Mobility)

This welcome mat converts into a fully accessible wheelchair ramp. Beautiful and functional design. I want it.

Some more info, for people who are interested.

First of all, I can’t believe this has almost 3,000 notes. I’m so glad that people are sharing this – both as a cool design, and also as an important accessibility feature.

Thanks to pseudosoph for linking to additional info (above) regarding weight limits, lift height, and product background – the creator is a wheelchair user himself! Very cool stuff. Keep sharing!

This isn’t a fail. Just wanted to share an accessibility win so people can get ideas for improving accessibility
