people who use the queue function fill a necessary role in the tumblr ecosystem. they keep posts alive. if u miss a post bc ur entire mutualcule was reblogging it from each other in a 30min span and u were offline, the queue mutual provides u an opportunity to see that post again in 1-8 business days. they put posts in stasis in little cryogenic freezers for u to discover and enjoy later. everyone thank their queue mutuals right now

Python 3 script for backing up your Tumblor blog; I can confirm it works perfectly once you add your API key using the README instructions. I did have to pass –no-ssl-verify on the command line, because without that it spat out of a bunch of SSL failures, but other than that it worked (and very quickly too, my ~5000 posts took less than a minute)

WordPress itself also has an import tool that can bring Tumblr over to any WordPress blog- mine is up at https://thestonesgowalking.wordpress.com/ Just look for the ‘import’ tab under ‘tools’ in your dashboard there. WordPress has been showing an interest in the fediverse, so I’m hoping that at some point in the future I can double-import from Tumblr->Wordpress->Hypothetical Fediverse Thing, basically to keep blogging with as much continuity as possible and maintain a (theoretically) searchable history across platforms.

As always, multiple backups are better than one, so I’ll be using this python script as well. Tumblr isn’t being formally shuttered yet, but with @staff down to a skeleton crew, they won’t have as many resources to throw at hardware failures, technical snafus, and other such problems. You should take final responsibility for your own data at this point; don’t assume that you’ll get much warning if the worst does happen.

And of course, pour one out for the folks that put so much work in to the site. There was a phenomenal amount of human energy that went in to keeping our collective garbage fire burning, and I am, truly, so very grateful to them for that.

Did I buy the Tumblr Ea-Nāṣir bracelet? Yes, yes I did.

Do I like it? Yes, I do! It’s a sturdy metal piece. It will hold up to daily wear, I think. The print on it is very clear and crisp.

I bought this for myself when I turned in my draft for Scion: Titans Rising, where (rumor has it) Ea-Nāṣir might make an appearance.

alvarance:

Hey, I had a few questions about this as I was planning on getting it as a gift for a friend. I was wondering if it was a solid or adjustable band and how well it’d fit on a 6in wrist if you knew? Thank you if you get to this

vaspider:

It’s solid, you would need tools to adjust its size. It does not bend easily. I don’t know how big my wrist is but it’s pretty dang skinny. It’d probably be fine?

psych-is-the-name:

according to my tape measure my wrists are about 6 inches around, and completely unaltered this is super loose

f9d6b7ea024a4c59fcba889b555de8b5c85263dc

I also agree that its super sturdy to the point where im going to have to use tools to bend it

clouds-of-wings:

Both to @psych-is-the-name and to @vaspider – you’ve had your bracelets for 2-3 months now, would you mind telling me if the print is still intact (especially if you’ve worn it a lot)? I’m thinking of getting the bracelet, but not if the print is bad quality.

psych-is-the-name:

I haven’t worn mine a whole lot, but the text is etched into the metal not printed on. So it would take a lot of abuse for the design to get worn off

messiestcloud:

Rebloging so I don’t forget this exists: Ea Nasir’s bracelet which, through the loveliest of life’s ironies, is *actually* good quality

silly-jellyghoty:

I have had mine for about 3 months now and it’s still in a perfect condition even with me banging it against metal machines in work all the time. The fact that it’s a solid piece of metal however doesn’t stop you from reshaping it a little. And yes, it takes aome serious effort, but i had squished mine using my hands alone to fit me better. It’s actually kind of funny how small that gap is now yet i can still put it on and off with ease.

brin-bellway:

moonlit-tulip:

A couple days ago, I saw a post going around about how one should be careful to not post on tumblr from behind a VPN, because apparently this is Distinctive Spambot Behavior which will get one’s blog shadowbanned.

This afternoon, I discovered that the replies I’d made on two different posts in the last ~week hadn’t actually gone through. On further examination, this happened because I made them from behind my usual VPN; when I disabled the VPN and pasted the replies back in (having, fortunately, backed up their text at the original times-of-posting, thanks @brin-bellway for getting me into that habit), they went through without issue that time.

So, apparently, it’s advisable to turn off one’s VPN on tumblr even when not posting, if one is replying, for fear that the replies might otherwise not go through. In retrospect I suppose this makes sense and my failure to read it into the post-a-couple-days-ago was probably a mistake on my end; but I hereby declare it explicitly, for the benefit of those who share my not-having-made-that-connection.

Hmmm. *whitelists Tumblr in VPN, grudgingly*

Other notes that seem like they might be relevant:

(1) I have received no notification of any kind that you pinged me on this post.

(2) I have been unable to DM anyone on Tumblr for several months. (In the “share” popup, no usernames come up in the list of people I might message; in the message tab, only my sideblogs appear in the list of blogs I might message *from*. Admittedly I haven’t actually tried messaging someone from the username-camping “brinbellway” sideblog…and apparently that works, huh.)

#I have been wavering on whether I should bother trying to file a complaint

(3) Upon inspection, it turns out that my reblogs of posts aren’t showing up in those posts’ notes. I suppose I *had* better file a complaint.
