Luke and I were looking at Hieronymus Bosch’s painting The Garden of Earthly Delights and discovered, much to our amusement, music written upon the posterior of one of the many tortured denizens of the rightmost panel of the painting which is intended to represent Hell. I decided to transcribe it into modern notation, assuming the second line of the staff is C, as is common for chants of this era.

Hello! My name is Meda, I am an autistic self-advocate located in Boulder, CO, and I am looking to start a chapter of ASAN in my area. ASAN is the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, a disability rights organization, and you can read more about them here.
There are many ASAN chapters across the country but none in Colorado. I just got back from a leadership program run by ASAN, and they urged me to start a chapter here.
PEOPLE I AM LOOKING FOR: All you have to do is be autistic, or an autistic cousin. It’s fine if you have no formal ‘advocacy’ experience. I myself have literally a week of training.
NT allies are welcome. You cannot hold leadership positions in ASAN, but there are many jobs you can do for us, especially if you have another disability and/or are active in cross-disability rights.
This post is a preliminary action to see if I can find people near me. If you are autistic and you exist in Colorado, please reblog this and say so, or message me! If you do not fit these criteria, please signal boost.
I hope that we can form an IRL autistic community here and work to change things.

I thought I would go ahead and share this separately, because it’s really interesting, based on the Minnesota Starvation Experiment.
Finding this stuff out has helped me understand and deal with some ongoing ED triggers. Just not getting enough to eat (or probably a good enough variety of nutrients) for a while will predictably trigger the kinds of thoughts and behaviors associated with eating disorders. No convoluted psychological explanations required; just starving your brain will do this.
Recognizing the pattern has helped me keep things at the disturbing thoughts level, and take that as an indication that I need to get more to eat. Rather than get triggered into actual disordered eating behavior. :-| (In my case, I stay hungry a lot from diabetes, with higher energy requirements there—and then also have trouble with remembering to eat enough and just standing up to cook, for other disability-related reasons.)
I first ran across this in the context of crash and yo-yo dieting, but it would apply equally well if you are having trouble consistently eating enough or enough variety for disability-related reasons. That can really foul you up in a lot of ways. And I would also not be surprised to see higher rates of clinical eating disorders among people who do have these disability problems with staying adequately fed, just from the complicated physiological responses there.

Here’s the deal: my first language is Italian. I know plenty of people on this website whose first language is Italian. Nevertheless, when we’re interacting with each other on Tumblr, we speak English.
I am not objecting to this system, it’s actually good practice for some people, to be able to speak a second language extensively.
BUT I HAVE A PROPOSITION FOR YOU.
Why not have a “Speak Your Own Language Day” where all of us exclusively speak in our native language?
(No but apart from the small rebellion from the US-centric and generally Anglophone-centric environment we got here, think about trying to speak to people from other countries via excessive use of Google Translate it’ll be a blast)
Ok, since this post has finally reached 100 notes I think it’s a good time to give a date, and since no one else has advanced suggestions I’m gonna do it
I’m proposing Wednesday 7th May, so the post has a chance to do a couple more laps and more people get a chance to participate (French Friday sounded hilarious, but I don’t wanna wait until next friday and this friday seems a bit too soon).
How it’ll work:
- If you’re native language is something other than English, speak that!
- If you have multiple languages you can pick from the choice is yous friend, speak all, speak one, whatever’s best for you
- You’ll blog in your language all day: text posts, replies, tags (except triggers and organizational tags), the whole nine yards. Regardless of what language people choose to speak to you, you answer in your own.
- Midnight to midnight according to your own time zone
- English native speakers, if you wanna participate maybe you could practice a second language you’re learning
- If anyone makes fun of anyone else for their language (and I’m including English native speakers that might choose to speak a second language on the day) I’m gonna come for you (◕‿◕✿)

Having gone from being fannish on LJ to fannish on tumblr, I have noticed that the average age seems a bit lower here. Most people I knew in fandom in my LJ days were in their early 20s, which does not seem to be the case on tumblr. But that is only my observation—and this is where the survey comes in. FOR SCIENCE! Well, for my own curiosity, mostly, but for science too.
