Batman Story Idea: The reason the Joker’s personality varies so wildly is that there are two people who, completely independently, adopted the identity
One is the goofy clown who’s more concerned with mayhem and spectacle than murder/suffering; ala the Silver Age Dick Sprang Joker or the Lego Batman Joker, the other the serial-killing social-engineering monster that’s a force of nihilistic chaos ala The Killing Joke/The Animated Series/the Heath Ledger Joker.
Both of them know about each other and fucking hate each other and each accuse the other of being a ripoff despite that almost certainly not being the case and them seemingly having come up with the identity independently in a hilarious coincidence.
