(my Internet was out for most of the day, so it’s quite possible there are already posts on my dash along these lines that I just haven’t caught up with yet, but anyway)

Tumblr what are you thinking

I have already liked three of those four posts

(I was kind of hoping it would be all four so I could say “all of those posts”, but no, turns out I didn’t hit the like button on the Civ post. Still, three out of four ain’t good.)

Imagine your OTP have been together for a while, and Person A organizes a romantic holiday.

On the last night, they’re walking along beside a river under a breathtaking sunset. Every aspect of the whole trip has been perfectly planned to make Person B as happy as is humanly possible. At a sheltered, leafy spot Person A stops and turns. Person B is nervous and excited as this person they love more than anything in the world gets down on one knee and looks up at them adoringly.

And then Person A takes a deep breath and says:
We’re no strangers to love
You know the rules, and so do I…

Eventually the 20th Century History class at Starfleet Academy stops being a fringey elective and becomes a required course, and all the cadets are like “this is so irrelevant, why do we have to learn this” and anyone who’s been around for a while is like “there is an 812% chance that you will time travel to the 20th century during your Starfleet career”

“but the temporal prime directive”

“At the very least you will get trapped a holodeck program based on the 20th century, and you will need to know all these weird idioms”

“But why is it only the 20th – ”

“We don’t know why it’s only the 20th century we have a whole corps of scientists trying to figure out what’s happening with that it seriously makes no sense but in the meantime, knowing how to work a combustion engine is pretty much guaranteed to save your life so get the hell on that.”

#maybe there will just be a 20th century truck #waiting for you in the delta quadrant

Why do some people not want their content/trigger note/warning tags to be usable for sorting purposes? I ask this not because I think this is bad but rather because I completely fail to understand why this occurs.

Clearly, there is a cost in having to add junk tags or append random numbers to avoid showing up in a search for, say, #violence cw, so if people do this anyway there must be some reason to.

I think they’re afraid of trolls looking through the warning tags for “SJWs” to harass.

notactuallycute this concerns me for some reason, is this okay?

Hello, shorter-url.
Your concern is very much understandable! Many people are taught that a shark cannot swim when still, which is partially true.

Sharks mainly breathe via two methods– buccal pumping, in which the shark actively draws water in through its mouth to pass over its gills, and ram ventilation, in which the shark must constantly move to force water over their gills. Buccal pumping is more prevalent in ancient sharks, and while some sharks adapted for bottom-feeding still use it, many modern sharks – like the great white shark – have lost that ability altogether and instead can only breathe via ram ventilation. These are called obligate ram ventilators and they have to keep moving in order to breathe.

This particular shark is an adult S. fasciatum, a Zebra or Leopard Shark, depending on the region. Fortunately, they aren’t obligate ram ventilators and, in fact, have very strong buccal muscles. You can even see them working in the first two gifs. When it starts moving to swim away, the diver lets it go, and there’s no harm for either party.

All the best,
Fatanyeros

Also, in my work with nurse sharks (same branch as S. fasciatum) I found them to actually enjoy scritches and petting. They would actively seek them out on their own terms.

My life is infinitely better for knowing some sharks like scritches.
