i know i just made a post about this but i figured i’d make one with more information!

is there anyone in the san antonio/austin area (TX) who would be willing/able to take this kitty? she showed up on my back porch a few weeks ago and i’ve been feeding and taking care of her since then, but i’m moving to austin and i’m not going to be able to take her with me. the other cats that hang around the apartment complex are very aggressive and violent and i’m terrified they’re going to attack her if i’m not there.

she’s a female tortoiseshell kitten that’s about 5-6 months old and weighs around 4-5 pounds. i doubt she’s been spayed or has gotten shots but she’s a healthy weight and very energetic and appears to be in overall good health otherwise.

she’s VERY friendly, affectionate, and playful. she loves large crowds of people and lets you pick her up and cuddle her and carry her around. she’s almost constantly purring and chirping at you. she’s basically the perfect kitten — i just can’t take her with me!

right now she’s at my san antonio apartment and i’m in austin, but i would be willing to drive and get her and bring her to either austin or san antonio if anyone could take her! i’d also be willing to cover the basic preliminary care costs (spaying, shots) which most shelters estimate is about $40. I WILL LITERALLY PAY YOU TO TAKE THIS KITTEN.

i would just be heartbroken to have to leave her there. most shelters here aren’t adopting cats or make you wait through an applications process and i don’t have time for that with my current moving/work schedule.

please let me know if you can adopt her!!! by 5/26 would be ideal! message me here

Diversity References For Writers

This began as a response to the #WeNeedDiverseBooks campaign, where a commonly asked question was “Is it okay to write so-and-so characters if I’m not so-and-so?”

The answer is yes. BUT you have to be careful and respectful when doing so. A cool way to find out more about those cultures and identities would be to talk to people who are themselves a part of it. This is where this tumblr comes into the picture as part of the #DiversifyYourWriting initiative.

Basic premise: People willing to discuss aspects of their lives as marginalized people submit “profiles”. This blog utilizes a tagging system that enables writers to easily find suitable people to talk to about the very cultures they are trying to write about.

TO SUBMIT: Head on over to our submit page and follow the guidelines! Become a diversity reference!

This project will add on to our tag directory for identities as submissions come in. It’s constantly expanding! If you have any suggestions or ideas, send them our way!

Regarding the Balkan floodings (Please read)

It is Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia that needs our help. All three countries. Not everyone can donate money, which is absolutely understandable, but what everyone can do is share information about these events. The media reports are poor and we need to raise awareness together.

Three months worth of rain has been falling over the countries in just three days, causing the worst floods in the past 120 years. A state of emergency has been declared. Thousands and thousands of people have been forced to evacuate and leave everything behind due to the floodings, and at least 35 people have been killed, the number still going up. More than 100,000 homes have been washed out. Read more here.

If you want to donate money, turn to your local Red Cross organisation.

Reverend Alpert is awesome. So are LB. There is a new (presumably awesome) story for sale. These are all things more people should know.
