anyone have any advice on getting out of bed in the morning?
i don’t even mean in the depressed way, but my alarm goes off, i’m awake, and i spend the first hour of my day lying in bed on my phone. which i don’t think is a very good habit.
i tried placing my alarm on the other side of the room, but that doesn’t help, i turn it off and go right back into bed. my morning self doesn’t agree with my evening self

Count aggressively up to 5 (in your head at first, but out loud if that’s not working for you) and then spring out of bed.

It doesn’t sound like it would work, but I find that if I simply lack the energy, then the counting with emotion is a low commitment activity for a short little boost; and if I lack the motivation, it hijacks the brain and keeps it from rationalizing reasons to stay in bed; and if I just feel depressed, I cant focus on the bad feels while i’m counting. Plus counting up is a non-daunting task that you can focus on instead of having to get out of bed.

I read this technique on the internet years ago and it worked for me.

#yes this #counting to 5 is very helpful for this sort of thing #(I hadn’t heard the ”aggressively” part and I don’t think I do it like that) #(firmly maybe but not aggressively) #(but someone else might find that helps) #I’m not sure about that explanation of why but however it works it works

I am instituting a new rule. If you ever make anything for/inspired by me, I definitely will want to see it. So given that tumblr shows a complete inability to consistently notify about tagged posts, please message me a link. Even if it’s:

[link*screams and runs away*

Because I always, always want to see it, you will not bother me, and apparently we’re going to just have to work around this hellsite.

If you tag me in anything and I don’t at least ❤like it, I haven’t seen it and you should link me.

^^ this

Same here! Even if it’s just you seeing something that reminds you of me, I’d love to be @ tagged!

[I feel like mirror universe Julian Bashir is the most wasted opportunity in all of DS9. Because of how Terrans are treated in that timeline, it’s unlikely that Bashir would have been genetically altered. If he was, it was likely under the command of the Alliance. The writers really could have played on the idea of who Jules Bashir would have been or what genetic engineering had become in the mirror universe. Instead, they opted for a dark/bitter Julian. It’s really a shame. ]

#Star Trek #DS9 #same #”most wasted” is a bit hyperbolic but still #they really could have gone somewhere with the implication that mirror!Bashir is still Jules

Anonymous asked: What do you think of Christians adopting Jewish practices like Passover and Hanuka because they are seen as less pagan? Does this appropriation bother you?

slatestarscratchpad:

Asking a non-religious Reconstructionist Jew about appropriating Hanukkah is kind of like asking Elizabeth Warren whether it’s okay to wear an Indian headdress.

There’s probably an official halakhic opinion about this, but if celebrating Hanukkah is appropriating Judaism, then having scrupulosity attacks about whether your celebration is wrong and searching for an official halakhic opinion about it is definitely appropriating Judaism, so maybe you shouldn’t check.

My own feeling is that if there’s ever some resurgence of anti-Semitism, I would rather Christians think of Jews as the friendly people with the beautiful rituals who drew them into their circle and invited them to share in their celebrations, than as the scary people who screamed “CULTURAL APPROPRIATION! ONLY WE ARE ALLOWED TO DO THAT!” every time they tried to light a candle.

Also, there are a bunch of prophets who say things like “There shall come a day when all the nations of the world shall bend the knee together in glorious worship of the God of Israel”, and I imagine that upon the fulfillment of the prophecy, one of the Jews turns to all the nations of the world and gives them a lecture about cultural appropriation, and then God facepalms.
