MY MOM BOUGHT ME TURKISH DELIGHTS I CAN FINALLY KNOW WHAT EDMUND BETRAYED HIS FAMILY FOR

wtf they taste like shit what drugs were you on edmund were they really worth it

The desperately betrayed look Blue gave me when he first tried Turkish Delight was one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

I remember when I first had Turkish Delight. I was in my mid-teens and a friend shared her box with the group. My first thought when I tasted it was “Wow, that must have been some really strong magic to make this taste good.”

I’m really excited about this shirt.

I own one of those! It’s neat. I did have someone (a vendor at the rock fair last spring) accuse me of wanting to kill the Doctor, but I don’t think he meant it.

I think it’s a glitch. It claims I liked it too, and I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen it before. (It is a nice post, though.)

How Old Are Your Ears, A Hearing Test by AsapScience

Shit.

Whelp, I can’t hear the 40 year old one.  I’m 36, and my ears are 50.  awesome. At least now i know I’m not imagining that my ears are bad, they actually are bad.

I can hear ‘under 30’ but not anything after that.

I’m 23 and I can’t hear the ‘under 40’ one (or any of the ones after that)

And the ‘under 50’ one I honestly don’t know if I heard that more or…… like felt it more so….

my ears kinda suck but I knew this already.

– Leon

Well, is it *you* that can’t hear it, or your headphones? I only got as far as 12000 Hz, and I’m pretty sure I have good hearing. I think that’s just what I get for buying the $15 earbuds at Walmart.

How to Tag Stuff (A Basic Guide)

ophiuchusdenied:

houseofthornes:

Tags are extremely useful, but if you’re new to tumblr, you might not know what to do with them (hence this nifty little guide). Tags have three basic uses: Organization, Information, and Commentary.

Tags are used for organization by consistently tagging things into categories you’ll remember so you can search for them later from your blog. This is the most basic use for a tag. This is also how tracked tags work, on a much larger scale. Have something you want organized on your blog but also want it out of the major tracked tags? Get creative. Many bloggers have tags only they and their followers would recognize. using tags for organization is very useful if you ever want to find a specific post again. Ever.

Organization tags also include tagging people you’re talking about or to in a post. If they’ve tracked their tag (and they probably have) they’ll know when someone tags them in a post and will be able to find that post to comment or keep talking. Remember, username tags need to be exact or the user won’t see it in their tracked tag.

Using a tag for information is possibly the most important use for tags. Not only is it useful, it can help keep people safe while browsing tumblr. Information has two main categories: basic information and warnings.

Basic information includes what fandom the post is about and the characters in it (as well as the ships) or simply the subject of the post. This lets people know the subject matter and is a great way for people to find new series they might want to read/watch/play/listen to. Tagging fandoms, characters, and ships also lets your followers blacklist certain things if they like you, but not one of your fandoms.

Warning tags are specifically for other users to blacklist. Blacklisting is a feature of a program called Tumblr Savior (TS), which helps keep people with phobias or triggers safe while browsing. It’s also used to avoid spoilers or posts about things a user just really doesn’t like. The most common warning tags are for violence, death, or non-consensual sexual activity, though there are obviously many more. I, for example, have spiders tagged because spiders scare the crap out of me.

Warning tags are very important, please use them.

Commentary tags are the fun tags. They’re for making comments you don’t want in the body of the post for one reason or another and often include, grumbling, sarcasm, and reactions to fandom posts. Because of the restrictions on grammar, commentary tags are usually un-capitalized and lacking punctuation. Commentary tags break where a comma might normally be, for emphasis, or if that tag is getting too long.

I hope this guide has helped! Remember, it’s just a basic guide to get you started.

in addition:

i believe xkit also has a blacklisting feature?  i’ve never tried it because i still use tumblrsaviour.

it’s also worth noting that tracked tags do not include reblogged posts, only individual posts, so if you tag a reblog for a friend with their url and they have their url tracked, they still won’t see it—but it does make it easier to search their blog for posts they’ve made/reblogged for you later. ^^

Also, important note: tags with hyphens are for commentary only. Because of the way Tumblr uses hyphens to indicate spaces in tag URLs, tags with hyphens in them cannot be searched for.

(This means that if your URL contains a hyphen, you are screwed tracking-wise unless people know to tag your name using a space instead of a hyphen, which never happens. Tumblr should fix this, but we all know they won’t and it might well be too entrenched in the way things work now anyway.)

How to make your ramen 9001x better, courtesy of /ck/

And you can buy roast beef and roast chicken on the internet. I am set for ramen for like a year now.

QUICK EGG IN UR RAMEN TRICK MY FRIEND TAUGHT ME IN HIGH SCHOOL

pour just enough water into your pot to cover your noodles and other ingredients, then get a small cup/fancy measuring 1 cup cup or w/e and measure out another cuppa watta. dump that shit in too.

make ur ramen. just start boiling and dump whatever you’re supposed to put in in the beginning. u know how to make ramen this isn’t ramen for snot nosed sobbing beginners ok

KEY PART: you know how it says on the back of the package to cook for about 4-5 minutes?? we’re cooking for 5 minutes. wait for your ramen to cook for the first three minutes. stare hungrily if you must. but the EXACT MOMENT 3 minutes hit here’s what you do:

  1. SCREAM. and then stir your noodles to make sure nothing is sticking to the bottom of the pot. (scream is optional) also make sure your broth is still more or less covering your noodles, if its not add a bit more. it doesn’t matter if some is still sticking up we just don’t want chewy noodles (unless you’re into that) (i’m into that)
  2. make a lil hole in your noodles. this little hole must have broth in it and nothing more. make it in the middle or the side it honestly doesn’t matter you just need a clear shot to the bottom of the pot
  3. crack your egg and toss that mother into the hole.
  4. COVER EGG WITH NOODLES AS QUICK AS YOU CAN
  5. DON’T. STIR.
  6. I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU STIR FOR THE REMAINING MINUTE AND A HALF YOU probably won’t ruin anything you’ll just have egg drop soup i guess but IF YOU DON’T STIR
  7. Congratulations, you have poached an egg in your broth! Your poached egg now tastes like your ramen broth. Revel in your victory.
  8. no seriously that egg will be mildly chewy deliciousness oh my god if you can perfect this technique you will never have your egg in your ramen another way again

this is as close as you’ll get to ramen made in a restaurant…

The recipe in the text bears *so* little resemblance to how I cook ramen that I’m pretty sure I couldn’t do it if I wanted to.

Here is how I cook ramen:

Put a pot of water on to boil. While it’s heating, unwrap two packages of ramen. Throw the seasoning packets away: they don’t taste very good. Hope the packets didn’t leak too much. It’ll still be okay if they did, but it won’t be as good.

The package says to cook for 2 – 3 minutes. Cook it for exactly 2min 25s, gently pulling apart the noodle mats with your wooden stirring spoon once they’ve softened enough to do so. (Maybe even break them up a little before they’ve softened.) Stir more or less constantly, to pass the time.

Drain. Put in bowl, coat with olive oil. Almost reach for the grated Parmesan, then remember that Parmesan and ramen flavours don’t mix too well. Save the cheese for other pasta.

Eat most of it as a side dish with (not in the same mouthful as) meat or scrambled eggs. While eating, contemplate how both brands in the soup section have really gone downhill and next time you restock your ramen supply you should probably try one of the brands in the ethnic section, you know, across the aisle from the Passover chocolate bars they sell year-round because there aren’t enough Jews in the area to buy them out in the spring. Drift into a tangent wondering if they’ve gotten rid of the chocolate bars from last year’s batch yet, as the shelf life is longer than a year but not by much. Forget to actually switch brands.

When you’re full, put the rest in the fridge and eat cold as a snack the next day.

Plot twist: The next companion is a normal girl/boy who only dies once in their lifetime and has no remarkable back story but he thinks they’re wonderful because they are human and the Doctor needs reminding that you don’t need to be a mystery to be remarkable.

#and the doctor never has to kiss them or sexualize them at all #in fact they are not even attracted to the doctor

so basically we want Donna back

On the one hand, yes.

On the other hand, that makes it sound bad, like we only get one and that’s it.

Lesson #1755 – Reading.

Thought process:

*reads chalkboards*

What books are in that pile?

Ooh, Jasper Fforde. Which one?

Oh, Shades of Grey. I love Shades of Grey. Nice and worldbuild-y.

Only then did I see the “no, that’s not Fifty Shades of Grey, check the author”. Guess I must not be the intended audience of said fine print.

Okay, this is a really entertaining game – it drops you at a random location in Google Street View and has you guess where you are based on your surroundings.

The ones I get right are either the ones with shop names in, so I can see the language, or the ones with distinctive geological features. (Where by “feature” I mean “type of bedrock as indicated by hill shape and/or visible outcrop”. ^_^ Quick, everybody act surprised.)

Ooh. All the sleuthy fun of Mapcrunch, but much shorter rounds and official score-keeping (though I’m not sure quite how they convert crow-flight distance to points).
