…why yes I am following you preemptively. (It’ll be weird, because I tend to think of Internet people as beings comprised purely of text and the occasional GIF. No matter what face they…
I tend to imagine Internet people’s appearances the same way I do with characters in books, dreams, or other things where I haven’t seen them otherwise. There’s a basic body shape, possibly skin and hair colour*, and if they’re very lucky they’ll get some defined clothes as well. It doesn’t seem as weird as it sounds when I put it that way. I hear some of it’s a prosopagnosic thing.
*Which doesn’t always match what I know it should be. (Brain, it’s supposed to be Holly Short that’s brown and Felaben Jackson that’s white, not the other way ‘round.)

Sounds like prosopagnosia to me. Maybe the cartoon thing feeds into my love of sci-fi. The more species diversity in the cast, the easier it is to tell them apart. Damn humans all look alike….
Hair colour only helps so much. At one point my Girl Scout troop had four girls with blonde shoulder-length hair. They all looked alike. Two of them were named Ashley (not really), so I called them all Ashley. That way I had a 50% chance of being right instead of 25%.
All too often, the third person you’re talking to asks “Which one?”, and you’re back to 25%. All too often, the coin of fate lands on tails and the people who don’t even realise there is a left slope laugh at you. (They clearly have some mysterious superpower.)
(250 character limit is hard. This must be what it’s like on Twitter.)

scribbleboy replied to your post: Is… is Simon Pegg in this episode?
Simon Pegg IS in an episode of Doctor Who :) Being an editor I think. And before the fandom tells you (they get pissy about this apparently) it’s Doctor Who, not Dr. (people are weird o.O)
Actually, no…
I know! It’s such a novelty to figure out who someone is. Faceblindness means I’m stuck in hard mode when playing Guess the Actor. (This is a Thing in my family. Mom picks a character she recognises (she’s best) and Brother and I guess who they are.)
Also: I hear facial recognition ability is a bell curve spectrum. Which would presumably make borderline prosopagnosia a thing, or rather prosopagnosia an arbitrary cut-off point somewhere on the left slope.
