#Livin’ on a Prayer #(I scrolled through the TagViewer list until I found someone who agreed with me) #(it took longer than I expected) #(though I can certainly understand the people who said Radioactive) #music
” I want my music to sound like throwing yourself out of a tree or off a tall building or as if you’re being sucked down into the ocean and you can’t breathe. It’s something overwhelming and all-encompassing that fills you up, and you’re either going to explode with it, or you’re just going to disappear”

#Florence Welch #Florence and the Machine #mostly reblogging because I am happy that I guessed right #her and that bright red hair of hers #also it’s good music #I need to get that new album sometime soon
what she means: what is hotel california even about? is it about addiction? is it about capitalism? is it about religion? is it about consumerism? was it a prophecy forewarning us of the overlook hotel in stephen king’s the shining? what does it mean to be tiffany-twisted and have the mercedes bends? does this refer back to america’s obsession with material possessions? who is the captain? how does he know which type of wine the narrator drinks? who has a lovely face? what is their own device? what animal are they stabbing in the master’s chambers? what are they programmed to receive? why can they never leave? who runs this hotel? is this sanitary? is this even legal? i cannot rest until this song has been decoded.
I was at a Presbyterian church today (PCA, not PCUSA), and NONE of the hymns were in common meter. Not one. Until the end. The last song was this one, so I had to restrain myself from shouting “CLOSE ENOUGH! Praise the tyrannosaur!”

#anything that makes me laugh this much deserves a reblog #there is actually some context for this #but it’s probably still funny in a somewhat different way without it
#music #poetry #I got it four lines in #fuck yeah #this was my favourite song when I was little #(you’re considering the sergeants as a Beatles reference then?) #(hadn’t thought of it but tbh I stopped trying to understand American Pie a *long* time ago) #(probably once I started hearing that most of it *had* no particular meaning)
have you ever been listening to a song you’ve heard a zillion times and all of a sudden you go “…wait a minute
wait hang on oh my god this song is about [x]”
And nothing is ever quite the same again.

#I first heard Stevie Nicks’s ‘Think About It’ maybe eight years ago #have heard it a fair few times since then #I was listening to it this evening #and during the *second* repetition of the chorus #(‘well I know you’d like to come away/but baby you can’t come…’) #all of a sudden my brain pointed out to me that in ‘Edge of Seventeen’ #’come away’ refers to dying #which would mean this song is about suicide #specifically about trying to talk somebody out of suicide #it makes so much sense now #(her song ‘Docklands’ also suddenly started making sense a few months ago) #(it was weird) #music #oh look an original post
so the 30-year-old song “Africa” by Toto is now number one on itunes because some radio station convinced the whole population of new zealand to buy it simultaneously
I BLESS THE RAINS DOWN IN AFFRIIICAAA
