with less than 800 mountain gorillas and only 2500 eastern lowland gorillas left in the world, gorilla populations are now so low that birthing programs such of these are needed to ensure sufficient genetic diversity of the species.

I think I may actually have known this was from the Onion by the font even before I’d finished processing the words. (Which would be weird if true, me not being a font geek and all. I don’t even know what font that is, let alone if it’s particularly distinct (at least not consciously). Maybe it was more the green symbol at the end? Hmm.)
