I would suggest that there is no harm in knowing exactly what you have to do if you had to move to Canada, Australia, Japan, Israel, England etc. on short notice, if you are worried about this.

It is useful to have these things computed ahead of time in emergency situations.

A lot of people actually have procrastinated on leaving real dystopias because figuring out how to move and then moving is an effort-intensive process.

If you’re concerned that you might be forced to move, setting aside a day to work out the details of how you would do this and writing it down would

(1) likely relieve some vague feelings of unease attatched to thoughts like “I might have to leave if things start to get really bad.”

(2) make “I can just leave, I know how to do this” a more available response to the thought “things look like they are getting kind of bad”

friendly reminder that since a lot of people have decided xmas now starts right after halloween: not everyone celebrates xmas or wants to participate.  don’t shame people for not participating in xmas traditions or blacklisting xmas. if people ask to not be wished a merry xmas, don’t wish them a merry xmas. don’t get upset if people express their frustrations with how christian normativity makes it impossible to escape this non-secular holiday for almost two months. if people want nothing to do with xmas, please just let them be.

and don’t pull the “it’s not religious it’s about FAMILY” thing either. one, it is fucking religious. two, some of us hate blood family far more than we ever hate religion.

So I said a while back that whitehouse.gov petitions are basically a way to assign the white house essays and now I’m imagining if The West Wing was set like ten years later and there’s some petition that’s getting lots of votes and Toby’s really hoping it doesn’t clear the threshold because then he’ll have to write the response to it so of course Josh covertly leads a drive to get it more signatures just to fuck with Toby I am writing crackfic what the fuck.

i was just woken up by a vague howling noise coming from all directions, audible from inside my room, under the covers. it’s hard to pick out distinct human voices- it’s possible that the buildings themselves just started screaming. the fireworks that started going off moments later prevented me from getting back to sleep

i haven’t checked yet but i’m going to assume this means the cubs just won the world series

You know, thinking this over further, there’s something charming about how thoroughly it inverts the themes of the original song. I mean, ‘Eleanor Rigby’ is all about loneliness and alienation, and yet look at all the bonding we are seeing between people who are not actually people (or at least not the humans they appear to be) upon the revelation that none of them are actually what they seem.
