PSA: If you are using Pluralkit or Tubberbox, go save your avatar files NOW.

Discord has been implementing a feature where direct links to images uploaded to Discord will no longer work after 24 hours. If you want more information, please check out this post by twilight-sparkle-irl. As Pluralkit and Tubberbox both use the direct links for images uploaded to discord for member avatars, this will likely affect these two bots.

I’ve talked to the Pluralkit devs and they have informed me that Pluralkit and Tubberbox devs are in talks with Discord to see how this will affect the bots. No updates as of yet but once I hear anything I’ll update this post.

In the meanwhile, I highly suggest everyone to save alter avatars if they can. I’ll be providing a link to an external tool that you can use in the reblogs of this post.

UPDATE: One of the helpers/mods for Pluralkit/Tupperbox has made a post about the situation. I definitely recommend people to read it when they can. If Tumblr breaks the link, I have a reblogged version of this post with the link there.

a few years back zinc acetate lozenges were doing the rounds and I love a good superstition so I went ahead and incorporated that into my belief system. been a while so I thought I’d check to see if the state of the science on the subject had shifted since then

afaict there hasn’t been much work on the subject in the intervening time, and nothing much to change your mind one way or the other. good work everyone, you may return to your superstition behavior.

some details:

  • one study¹ recently reported a null result, but based on the going theory for zinc lozenges that’s what you would expect (zinc acetate was administered by capsules). also the study was lacking in other ways.
  • another² has a good looking graph and is maybe positive for the concept. haven’t read the fully study yet

that’s maybe about it? my method for researching this research was to search pubmed for “(zinc) AND ((acetate) OR (gluconate)) lozenge” plus some other words instead of lozenge, as there were too many results without an additional keyword for filtering. I am sure there are other places results are published besides pubmed. feel free to catapult relevant studies into my inbox

you know, i don’t love the idea that colds get dragged out that long. 19 days? some poor assholes get colds for 19 days?

yeah that sounds fucked up! had no idea that was the case for some people, I always thought of a cold as a 1-3 day kind of thing. but presumably if someone gets 20 day colds they’re probably very glad to cut a week off that

The third week of a cold sucks a lot less than the first week so, like, maybe only as much as a normal person’s cold, but yeah if there’s a pill for cutting that third week off, I’m interested regardless of whether it helps with the main brunt of the cold. Gonna have to look into this.

so there’s basically two reasons he would need to do this and they’re both funny

  1. his magical honda unsummoned while he was in Walmart; this means it’s not even a real car and could look like anything and he picked or was forced somehow to pick a Honda Accord
  2. his normal honda was left someplace while he came to Walmart by other means, and he can teleport the car to him more easily than he can teleport himself places

there’s also the idea that he drove to walmart in his honda accord, and then when he got out he either forgot where he parked or wanted to skip like 20 seconds of walking so he just summons it right in front of the door

To not have to find a parking space, most wizards keep their Honda Accords in a extradimensional oubliette when not driving. This also saves on garage space.

spells that instantly summon vehicles are pretty elaborate, and have a high risk of clipping into something and causing serious damage. instead, imagine this:

the wizard casts his grand spell, the light around him flares, and then, across the parking lot, you see his honda accord begin slowly and carefully driving itself to his location. this takes several minutes.

yeah sometimes I use a quantum RNG to influence my posts because it’s the one true source of randomness and I think it’s funny. anyway one time this guy messaged me out of nowhere and told me they were stuck in a time loop and my posts were the only thing that was different every time and it freaked me the fuck out so i blocked them
