come to think of it, why wouldn’t someone with superman’s powers use them for physical comedy? like. buster keaton style. or dick van dyke. he is invulnerable and can fly, those are the perfect circumstances for a pratfall. half the time only he is aware that he is joking and he just looks like a clumsy asshole but he knows in his heart that the timing on that gag was perf. add this to my list of stupid fucking headcanons.

clark sits down too aggressively in a desk chair, rolls backward across basically the whole office before the chair tips backward and he rolls out of it and into a vending machine in the break room that drops candy on his head because he whacked it. lois is laughing so hard she can’t breathe but the joke is on her, he did that on purpose. he planned that gag for days. she is laughing with him, not at him. who is the real winner here. score one for kent.

I just want to see him run off the edge of a cliff and not fall until he looks down.

Glory Girl could substantially up her Amusing Children at the Hospital game.

anyone have any advice on getting out of bed in the morning?
i don’t even mean in the depressed way, but my alarm goes off, i’m awake, and i spend the first hour of my day lying in bed on my phone. which i don’t think is a very good habit.
i tried placing my alarm on the other side of the room, but that doesn’t help, i turn it off and go right back into bed. my morning self doesn’t agree with my evening self

Count aggressively up to 5 (in your head at first, but out loud if that’s not working for you) and then spring out of bed.

It doesn’t sound like it would work, but I find that if I simply lack the energy, then the counting with emotion is a low commitment activity for a short little boost; and if I lack the motivation, it hijacks the brain and keeps it from rationalizing reasons to stay in bed; and if I just feel depressed, I cant focus on the bad feels while i’m counting. Plus counting up is a non-daunting task that you can focus on instead of having to get out of bed.

I read this technique on the internet years ago and it worked for me.

#yes this #counting to 5 is very helpful for this sort of thing #(I hadn’t heard the ”aggressively” part and I don’t think I do it like that) #(firmly maybe but not aggressively) #(but someone else might find that helps) #I’m not sure about that explanation of why but however it works it works

The best reddit thread I’ve ever seen was when someone asked if the gang from Always Sunny in Philadelphia could kill Darth Maul and almost all of the responses were over 4 paragraphs long

Best quote from that thread: “To give the gang a slight advantage, We’ll assume that Darth Maul has not seen any of the films in the Home Alone franchise.”

(Note: I do not do pranks. In any case, I encourage you to check this thing out for yourself.)

Today I learned that you can download the entirety of Wiktionary onto your smartphone. Speaking as someone without a cellular data connection who likes her apps to be as self-sufficient as possible, this is so cool.

(The downloadable Wiktionary is about a month out of date at the moment, but Wiktionary-as-it-was-one-month-ago is a lot better than nothing, and quite a bit better than an offline dictionary that only defines English and can’t be stored on the SD card.)

If I had a larger SD card, I could even get Wikipedia! (Or rather, Wikipedia as it was ~3 months ago, but still.) (~18 GB for an imageless version, 50-something GB for the full copy.) So, while I currently still don’t get to have Wikipedia at my beck and call at all times, the problem is now merely “too little storage space”, which is much easier to fix than “how the fuck do you even download Wikipedia”.

I haven’t played around with it that much yet, but initial tests are promising. (I tried using my local copy of Wiktionary just now to double-check my usage of “self-sufficient”, and it worked fine.)

(A while ago I was reading the Eclipse Phase RPG sourcebooks, and at one point they mention a device characters can get that stores a local copy of space-Wikipedia, automatically updating itself whenever you have space-Internet access and providing you with Wikipedia-as-of-the-last-time-you-had-Internet when you don’t have Internet access. And I was like “Damn, *I* want one of those”. Turns out, you can pretty much have one of those.)

Update: my uncle gave me a 64GB microSD card for Christmas. I now have an imageless copy of Wikipedia! (The card can technically fit a full copy, but then it wouldn’t have enough space left for everything else I want to put on it.)

You never know when you might want to look something up, and now I can! (as long as it’s not something where it matters that the offline version hasn’t been updated since September; I read some of their help forum, and apparently compiling a copy of a site that huge is difficult enough that they can only manage updates once or twice a year)

hello i’m back (for now). i disappeared because i stopped enjoying this website so just…stopped logging in. i don’t know if i will stick around this time. i mostly just logged in because i was getting followed by tons of porn bots and wanted to know why. inexplicable as always.

what i have been up to in my absence: working, reading, attempting to socialize irl, transitioning, becoming a The Good Place evangelist, trying out literally every antidepressant, going for walks.

please tell me what you’ve been up to and what terrible posts i have missed out on

Some things I’ve been up to: bailing the sinking ship that is my household’s finances (been doing a lot of that; still sinking, but more slowly), getting a job in fast food (as part of previous thing), considering changing my major (currently taking introductory accounting as part of figuring this out), spectating a Tumblr group roleplay (warning: most stuff in that tag makes no sense out of context), getting back into Flight Rising (didn’t post about that part).

Re: terrible posts, I’ve gotten pretty good at avoiding terrible posts over the years, so I’m not sure. There’s that Tide-pods meme, I suppose. In less-terrible posts, a new meme I’ve seen going around recently is sorting characters by how they would react to children begging them for McDonalds.

I’ve been hearing a lot of praise for The Good Place, from a lot of different directions. I have some secondhand knowledge of it, but I haven’t actually watched it (partly because I’ve been busy, partly because video’s not all that good a format for me in general). (I have not ruled out the possibility that I might watch it at some point.)

thank god for the mythbusters though because it used to be that whenever i knew i had insomnia i’d just kind of accept it and stay up doing whatever until my morning classes and spend the day feeling like shit

but then they did an episode where they established that even just fucking laying there for a half hour, not even sleeping just laying there and not even for an hour, makes a significant difference and you’ll feel way better

it has made a huge difference in my life to know that it’s okay if i can’t fall asleep, it takes a lot of the pressure off and ironically helps me fall asleep better

inkstainedchocolateeyes:

…i did not know this, thank you

unpretty:

If anyone wants to look it up, the episode was specifically the Deadliest Catch crossover ep, and the myth was that it’s better/safer when working a 30 hour shift to take a 20 minute nap every six hours rather than try to power through. They did an obstacle course test, one without naps and one with, and even though they couldn’t even sleep half the time the naps resulted in their scores doubling.

So actually I undersold it, even if it’s 7:40 and your alarm goes off at 8 just lie down and shut your eyes and it will still be better than nothing

spooniecollection:

This is what my mom always tells me: “You’ll rest even when you’re just lying down”. Good to know for everyone who has problems sleeping.

conquerorwurm:

This is really important to remember!!

could have done with this information this afternoon when i was lying there unable to get up but still some variety of awake and mutinously angry with myself for not being able to actually open my eyes
