If the ocean ever disappears DONT GO LOOKING FOR IT… go in the other direction

i know this sounds like a shitpost but isn’t this like, real advice regarding tsunamis

Yes this was about hurricane Irma it is not a shitpost

This is actually really good advice so let me elaborate a bit: if you notice the tide is retreating very quickly at a very odd time of day, get as far away from water and as high up as you can. I live along the ocean and a long time ago we had a small tsunami and a relative of mine tells me how her father saw the tides retreating so he just picked her up and just ran, which probably saved their lives.

So yeah DONT LOOK FOR THE MISSING OCEAN just run away

ocean not lost, ocean is actually winding up to kick you very hard in the nuts.

God, the Internet is amazing.

I was thinking fondly of a song from a childhood video game, but I could not recall how the song went or the exact name of the game. And I thought “Maybe I can fix that.”

Armed only with the information “there was this M&M-themed game on CD-ROM, and the song was the background music for level 5″, it took me all of a couple of minutes to track this down. (If you would like to skip to the best part, that is at 1:03. I tried linking to that timestamp, but it looks like you can’t do that with video posts.)

Bonus: apparently the game disc’s ISO is available from the Internet Archive.

(I wonder if Windows 7 is backwards-compatible with Windows 95 games, or if I would have to take stronger measures?)

Update:

I downloaded the ISO, installed some software that lets me run the ISO in a virtual CD-ROM drive*, and tried the game.

It works! Windows 7 had no problem (nor even complaint) installing and running this Windows 95 software. I played through level 1 and most of level 2 (out of, I think, 10). When I ran out of lives, I decided to stop for the moment rather than restarting the section.

*I do have a real CD-ROM drive, but I didn’t want to bother obtaining a blank disc to burn the file onto.

#games #my childhood #food mention #oh look an update #Windows versions 8 and newer have virtual CD-ROM drives built in #so if I had one of those it would have been even easier than it already was #(assuming they didn’t break backwards compatibility with the game in those versions)

Unexpected side effect of fast-food job: listening to current Top 40 music while sitting at home feels very disorienting.

It’s rolling out this week on iOS and Android, and comes with this Help Center article.

Thanks! ✌️

Head’s up folks! Tumblr decided to shit the bed and go non-chronological!

This bullshit is being rolled out this week and it’s going to be default!

Shattered distribution.

i’m sorry i understand this is trying to make a point but literally all i can think is “what the shit kind of graphic design is this”

Recently, I had a practice exercise for Critical Thinking class (Unit 7: How to Lie with Statistics) in which I had to find a terrible graph in a news source and explain why it was terrible.

As such, my reaction to this post is “*sigh* howmuch.net is at it again”.

(In the case of the post I linked, the article was even worse than the graph taken in isolation. Fun fact: as far as I can tell (and admittedly it’s not all that clear), the original data source uses “housing” to mean everything involved in maintaining a residence (such as utilities), but the article strongly implies that “housing” = “rent”. And they casually assume that a household with average income will also have average expenses, and at one point actually conflate income and expenses!)

On the bright side, the OP is wtf-viz, which means that the point this post is trying to make is “what the shit kind of graphic design is this”.
